The Texas Sunset Advisory Commission has released an update to the Texas Department of Transportation Sunset Report that goes a little easier on the agency this time, according to the Austin American Statesman.
The report still calls for the Texas Transportation Commission to be converted from a commission of 5 individuals appointed by the Governor to a single Commissioner and other recommendations that came up two years ago when the legislature was supposed to pass a sunset bill to continue operation of TXDOT. Failing to agree on a new bill, the legislature passed a continuation bill to simply keep the agency as is and start over with the sunset process in the upcoming 2011 session.
This summer, an independent audit by Grant Thornton called for major changes
at TXDOT and included a long list of complaints. Many changes have been made in the last two years, and were noted in the new Sunset Commission report, as noted by the Austin American Statesman.
