The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) today announced designation for road projects scheduled to receive Proposition 12 funding, state transportation bonding authority backed by general revenue. The two largest allocations of Proposition 12 money will fund two I-35 “congestion reduction” projects in the Waco area, totaling about $235 million. The next largest line item on this new list (dated September 1, 10) represents an allocation of over $28 million to the Wurzbach Parkway for new capacity in the San Antonio area.
The rest of the projects, one in Corpus Christi and the rest in San Antonio - are all less than $2.5 million each.
According to the TxDOT web site, the legislature approved $2 billion in Proposition bond funds in July 2009. The last awards of Proposition 12 funds totaled over $250 million in lettings in July 2010. No projects for the Houston region appear on the July or September lists of lettings.
The Houston District has two projects scheduled for Proposition 12 funds, both highway improvements: the Gulf Freeway at Nyack Rd and the direct connectors from I-10 to 610 North and US 290 North. TxDOT has also published an online map for all of the Proposition 12 projects. The Houston Tomorrow story image shows the locations of all of the projects planned for Proposition 12 funding.
