The Houston-Galveston Area Council’s Transportation Policy Council (TPC) will vote on Friday on a proposal to alter the current Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) “advancing 4 projects to FY 2011 from later years in the TIP and programming supplemental funding for direct connectors from IH 10 W to SH 99 (Segment E Grand Parkway),” according to the TPC Agenda.
H-GAC has posted comments received on the potential changes during a public comment period that ended June 17, 2011. There were no comments in favor of the proposed changes in support of SH99 toll road, expected to cost around $6 billion if completely built out. The Houston Regional Group of the Sierra Club wrote an extensive letter opposing spending on SH99, and several individuals wrote in opposing SH99 spending via email.
The proposed spending on SH99 will come from the Texas Mobility Fund as well as $18.4 million in Federal funding allocated at the discretion of the TPC.
