The TOD Group, a real estate investment management firm focused on transit-oriented development, recently purchased a 21-acre property just outside of downtown Denver, which the group, in coordination with the local county planning department and the Regional Transportation District, will transform into a “transit village.” The Clear Creek Transit Village project will include revitalization of the two train station areas within the property, with stations scheduled to open in 2016.
John Renne, PhD, AICP, Managing Director of the TOD Group says that they launched their first fund in Denver because they and their investors “see more political and community support for TOD in Denver than most regions.” But Renne notes that TOD concept is gaining popularity in Houston, and that some of the investors in the Denver TOD Fund are based in Houston.
“This is the time for cities and regions to plan for TOD because those that do not are going to get left behind in the 21st century,” says Renne.
