San Antonio’s long, complicated history with public transportation will take a new turn late next year when VIA Metropolitan Transit launches its first rapid bus line, according to a story in the San Antonio Express-News:
Bus Rapid Transit is lauded for its technological and service innovation, such as fewer stops and increased frequency, a modern feel and other qualities that make bus travel a more rail-like experience.
“It’s a good entree into rapid transit,” VIA Metropolitan Transit President and CEO Keith Parker said. “It allows us to get a project under way that we think will bring some real benefit, without as much construction cost, without as much time and so forth, so we can get people a taste of what mass transit can do.”
