Round Rock is considering creating a 16-mile light rail line, according to an article in the Austin American-Statesman. The issue first arose when the Austin-San Antonio Intermunicipal Commuter Rail District approached the city to solicit its participation in a 110-mile system connecting Georgetown to San Antonio. However, the proposed rail line would go nowhere near Round Rock’s main economic hubs, a revelation that prompted local officials to look at other alternatives. Whether or not the commuter rail district alters its plans to include the city’s main economic centers, Round Rock officials are “cautiously optimistic” about the potentials of a rail system.

Good for Round Rock! How progressive! I was so surprised when my son began counseling at a large high school in Round Rock and found out it was only one of 5 major high schools. Round Rock is a rapidly growing community thanks to the Dell headquarters and is smart to get a handle on the traffic with a light rail.
I hope it is also a part of the San Antonio to Georgetown line. That is a natural.
