The City of Port Arthur will begin work on a Vision 2020 to guide future growth and development, according to a report in Guidry News.
The City is inviting residents to participate in planning for their future. The Beaumont Enterprise quotes Lamar State College-Port Arthur President Sam Monroe (Full story available here):
“The chief element of the plan includes getting the community involved in this shared vision over the next decade,” Monroe said. “We believe Port Arthur will become a model for sustainable community development through strategic and integrated investments that are economic based.”
A story on KBTV Fox 4 News notes that the plan is intended also as marketing - “to improve the city’s image and it’s quality of life.”
Guidry News - along with posting mp3 files from the city council meeting - notes the City’s plans for engaging citizens in developing the vision:
Bob Phillips host of “Texas Country Reporter,” will act as moderator the first 2020 Vision community workshop at 6 p.m. on July 8, at the Bob Bowers Civic Center, 3401 Cultural Center Drive. In addition a web portal has been established on http://www.portarthur.net so that residents can post ideas. Click on the “Blackboard Connect” option at the top right-hand corner of the page.
