Amid talks of an Ike Dike being built along the upper Texas coast, environmental attorney Jim Blackburn argues that a national seashore makes more sense than the dike in a Galveston County Daily News commentary.
Ike Dike supporter and oceanographer at Texas A&M University at Galveston, Bill Merrill, presents his view that a coastal barrier made of gates and walls is necessary to combat hurricane storm surges, via the Houston Chronicle’s Sci Guy blog. Merrill’s comments come in response to Harris County Commissioner Steve Radack’s opposition to the possible costs for Harris County of both the proposed Ike Dike and the series of studies intended to propose the best method of protecting the Houston region from a potential future direct hit of a hurricane storm surge.
