The Montgomery County Commissioners Court may return the right to develop Segments G & H of the proposed SH 99 loop toll road to the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), according to YourConroeNews.com.
Montgomery County had previously exercised its right to control development of the project, but may be following Harris County’s footsteps in giving up that right. This move would put control of any public-private partnership back in the hands of TXDOT. Montgomery County had previously sought proposals for such a deal while also pursuing a feasibility study on the proposed toll road.
Protesters last week asked TXDOT to remove all segments of the proposed 185 mile toll road from the State Transportation Improvement Program. The project is listed in the STIP at a total cost of almost $5 billion, according to a tally by the Sierra Club.
