Mayor Annise Parker and a strong majority (12 of 16) of the members of the newly seated Houston City Council subscribed to the “smart city” agenda of SmartCityPAC, an entity headed by former council member Peter Brown, according to an email from SmartCityPAC, which describes their agenda:
The net result is that 12 of 16 Council Members plus the Mayor subscribed to our “smart city” agenda - pro-active economic development, neighborhood revitalization, expanded rail transit and transit-served development creating attractive and walkable urban districts, a cleaner, healthier environment, effective planning, urban design, and pro-active development regulations attractive to investors.
With our positive, bi-partisan agenda, Council Members and the Mayor, over the next two years, can embrace ‘smart city’ issues, to make Houston a more prosperous, inclusive, greener, sustainable and livable city.
The email also suggests that voter turnout may be increased by changing the term limits structure of the City of Houston along with this “bi-partisan, sustainable Houston agenda.”
