Community workshops for Northside and Upper Kirby Livable Center studies are being held Wednesday and Thursday of this week, offering participants a chance to “share ideas and perspectives, view preferred conceptual drawings and plans, and help prioritize next steps,” according to event fliers.
Livable Centers are walkable, mixed-use places that provide multimodal transportation options, improve environmental quality and promote economic development, according to the Houston-Galveston Area Council, and this week’s events are follow-ups to January workshops in which issues and opportunities were identified for both Livable Center projects.
The Wednesday, June 16 workshop will focus on the Northside Livable Center Study and take place from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the M.D. Anderson YMCA (map), while the Thursday, June 17 workshop will focus on the Upper Kirby Livable Center Study and take place from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at the Upper Kirby Building’s conference room (map).
Both workshops will present Livable Centers Study drafts, which focus on proposed land uses, development opportunities, connections, parks, public spaces, major streetscape improvement concepts, and implementation strategies, notes an event flier.
