Liberty County Commissioners scheduled a meeting covered by Guidry News Service:

Members of Liberty County Commissioners Court, representatives of the Texas Department of Transportation, members of the Texas Legislature and representatives of the Houston-Galveston Area Council met this morning in the Liberty County Commissioners Courtroom to discuss a proposal to transfer Liberty County from the Beaumont TxDOT region to the Houston TxDOT region.

“We are in the H-GAC COG, but we are in the Beaumont TxDOT District,” explained Liberty County Judge Phil Fitzgerald in an interview with Guidry News Service after the commissioners court workshop. “So a lot of the planning and funding for the highway system comes out of the Houston district and the H-GAC. Harris County Judge Ed Emmett was a guest at the meeting.

“There is no way I am going to get involved in telling them what they ought to do,” Emmett said“ But I did point out a couple of things.”  Listen RealPlayer MP3

Among the things that Judge Emmett pointed out, according to the Guidry News story:
* Grand Parkway is a Liberty County issue.
* Emmett says I-69 will run east of Houston, and will be a Liberty County concern.
* The Beaumont TxDOT District manages Liberty County’s hurricane evacuation plans, but people in Liberty County get their news from the Houston media.
