Car, truck, and SUV sales in the 10-county Houston metropolitan area were down 31 percent in July 2009, compared to July 2008, according to a recent Houston Economic Indicators email update from the Greater Houston Partnership (GHP). GHP’s numbers come from the latest TexAuto Facts, published by InfoNation, Inc. of Sugar Land.
The year-to-year decrease for July was smaller than what it was for June, when it fell by nearly 48 percent. GHP says that July sales in the Houston region appear to have been improved “only marginally” by the new “Cash for Clunkers” program.
In July new car sales continued to be down by a greater margin - 39 percent - than new truck and SUV sales, which were down only 24 percent from last July.
