Eighty percent of the world’s energy needs in 2050 could be supplied by renewable energies if governments fully support maximizing the potential for renewables, according to a (IPCC) report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, as reported by Scientific American.
The estimate is the highest bound of four future scenarios, but provides those seeking reasonable solutions to the climate change problem with hope as the ability of renewables to replace fossil fuel sources has not previously been thought to be possible at this rate, according to Scientific American, that also noted some controversy surrounding a decision by the IPCC to include wood-burning as renewable, but not nuclear.
Overwhelming majorities of Americans believe that it is important “for the U.S. to develop and use solar power” and that solar energy should receive support such as grants and subsidies that currently go to fossil sources, according to two new polls reported in Texas Climate News.
