With a population of 2.30 million as of Nov. 22, Houston is still the fourth-largest city in the United States, according to the Houston Business Journal, which used statistics compiled by Buffalo Business First.
Houston added 48,529 people between 2009 and 2010, adds the story, which included a list of the nine American cities that currently have more than 1 million residents (three of them in Texas:

• Los Angeles (3,852,820)
• Chicago (2,858,538)
• Houston (2,306,455)
• Phoenix (1,638,283)
• Philadelphia (1,556,396)
• San Antonio (1,411,732)
• Dallas (1,320,126)
• San Diego (1,314,818)
California has 215 of the nation’s top 1,000 largest cities, more than any other state, while Texas is second with 82 cities on the list, notes the story.
