Google has added information about Houston transit to their mapping programs so that it can give you the option of choosing car or transit or walking directions to your destination. The web version of Google maps gives you the option to do your trip by car, transit, or walking and that now includes Houston information.
I just discovered that the newest update to the iPhone also includes an update to allow transit and walking directions through the iPhone Maps application and this also includes Houston information. This may work on other cell phones with Google-powered maps as well, but I am not sure.
Here is a map showing how to use transit to get from our office to Mia Bella Trattoria downtown, using bus, rail, and walking, which Google maps says will take 38 minutes:

Is this broken for you guys? I can’t seem to get Google Maps to return any bus routes anymore. Every last try has some message about not finding transit routes for the two addresses i provide, even when both are along known routes.

I just checked this out and got the same error, so I sent a message to Mary Sit, METRO’s blogger, who I had already talked to about google transit a little.
Its too bad. I hope they get it fixed.

Thanks for this news, Jay. I’ve been waiting for this! Google Maps and the iPhone maps application are so much slicker and easier to use than Metro’s Web site. Super cool.
