Houston City Council passed the preservation ordinance that has been under discussion for months, according to the Houston Chronicle, the Houston Press, and KUHF.
The final ordinance represents a compromise following a series of public debates including the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance claiming that “a great deal of misinformation [was] circulating about the proposed amendments.”
The final ordinance removes the “90 day clause,” which previously meant someone wishing to demolish a building which a City commission had asked them not to demolish simply had to wait 90 days to do it.
