The Houston Chronicle will let go of 12% of its employees “in an effort to reduce costs amid unprecedented change in the newspaper industry,” according to a recent Chronicle article.
Chronicle Publisher and President Jack Sweeney announced the layoffs on March 24 - cutbacks that will include 90 newsroom employees, accounting for 27 percent of its editorial staff, according to a Houston Press article. The newsroom will undergo restructuring, but the core mission of the newspaper will remain the same, says Chronicle Editor Jeff Cohen.
