The Houston region had the largest population growth of metro areas recently reported in the 2010 Census, according to charts from Urbanophile.
The largest Texas cities – Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio – all showed strong population growth over the last 10 years, ranked in the top 10 growing metropolitan areas.
The Las Vegas and Raleigh/Durham, NC areas had the largest overall population rate growth with almost 42% increases each. Right behind them was the Austin/Roundrock/San Marcos area with a 37% increase in population. Houston had the largest number change, adding 1.2 million people, a 26% increase, to the Houston/Sugar Land/Baytown area.
Three cities on the list decreased in population: Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and the New Orleans area.
For job growth, Austin led the list with a .97% increase while Houston, with San Antonio behind, ranked third. Dallas and Houston both had slight job decreases. Memphis, Sacramento, and Las Vegas showed the largest decreases in job growth.
It is important to note that New York numbers were not reported at the time of this analysis.
