The House and Senate Appropriations Committees both propose to increase highway spending from $42 billion in FY2010, says the AASHTO Journal. The House Appropriations Committee proposes $45 billion in highway spending for FY2011, a $3 billion dollar increase from FY2010, reports the AASHTO Journal. The Senate version proposes $42 billion for highways and doubling the House version for TIGER grants to $800 million. President Obama proposes a decrease in highway spending from $42 billion to $41 billion.
Although House Appropriations’ voted to increase highway spending, the same vote would decrease overall discretionary transportation spending by $500 million from FY2010, according to the AASHTO Journal.
