Galveston City Council votes against mixed use

May surrender recovery funds

Galveston City Council voted 4-3 - with Mayor Joe Jaworski in opposition - to strip the mixed use elements of a plan to build affordable housing across the city, potentially surrendering $25 million in Hurricane Ike recovery funding back to the Houston-Galveston Area Council for distribution elsewhere in the region, according to Guidry News.

Earlier in the year, the Galveston Alliance of Island Neighborhoods, a collection of neighborhood groups, fought the mixed use elements of the Working Together for Galveston plan.
