Local entrepreneur and owner of the WAVE jitney transit service, Lauren Barrash, is gathering interest in developing their parking lot on Washington Avenue in a a food court for food trucks as well as a hub of the various WAVE jitney lines, according to the Houston Chronicle:
A local entrepreneur wants to turn the parking lot she leases near downtown into a gathering spot for the city’s growing fleet of food trucks.
Lauren Barrash, owner of an Inner Loop shuttle service, is circulating a survey to residents around her Washington Avenue- area property to gauge interest in the proposed project.
She already leases space to one food truck and has started approaching others about the idea.
“It would be like a food court for food trucks,” she said, noting similar parks in Austin, Dallas and San Antonio.
Barrash envisions as many as eight trucks that could be rotated on different nights.

I’ll bet this can be pulled off in a quirky way and find steady success. Can I take my snacks on the WAVE? Otherwise, I’m hoping the parking lot gets a little more “people friendly” ie some shade, seating, etc. Some good opportunities here for low budget but very cool accommodations, matching the character of other hip places around Washington Ave/The Heights. I love the charm of the area and hope the food truck court borrows design elements from such nearby places as the Art Car Museum and nearby restaurants like Beaver’s, Onion Creek, heck even Jimmie’s Place (Home of the White Oak Athletic Association) or King Biscuit. Could be a lot of fun and give WAVE customers a cool reason to ride to the end of the line. The best part of it all is surely the low investment, given that the vendors will bring their own mobile restaurants to the table.
Good luck!
