As part of their Livable Centers Program (pdf), the Houston-Galveston Area Council recently announced a funding opportunity where local governments, transit agencies, management districts, or other agencies can propose and co-sponsor a study with H-GAC that focuses on some aspect of creating Livable Centers.
The following is part of an email letter sent by H-GAC Land Use Transportation Coordinator Meredith Dang, calling for applicants for the June 30, 2009 deadline:
This is an announcement of a funding opportunity for H-GAC Livable Center Studies.
The goal of H-GAC’s Livable Centers Program is to help create walkable, mixed-use places that provide multi-modal transportation options, improve environmental quality, and promote economic development. Livable Centers studies apply these program goals to a specified study area. Project outcomes may include proposed future land uses, transportation facilities, street design and pedestrian improvements and parking plans.
The study sponsor must be a local government, transit agency, management district, or other agency authorized to receive federal transportation funds. The sponsor must demonstrate a commitment to provide a minimum 20% match to the overall study costs.
More information about H-GAC’s Livable Centers Program is available at http://www.h-gac.com/livablecenters.
Please be advised that this is a limited funding opportunity. We anticipate being able to fund two Livable Center studies in this round. Therefore we will be creating a contingency list for future funding opportunities.
These funds must be expended by August 31st, 2010, thus it is critical that studies selected in this round be in an advanced state of readiness. We will be able to work with you to get your study ready for the next funding round if needed (development of scope, commitment of matching funds, etc.)
Funding applications should be submitted to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or electronically using the ‘submit’ button on page 4 of the form. Applications are due June 30th, 2009.
