Daniel Krueger will be the new Director of the Public Works & Engineering Department (PWE) for the City of Houston, following his nomination by Annise Parker and confirmation by the full city council, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Krueger succeeds Mike Marcotte who has retired after serving as Director of PWE for six years. Krueger previously worked as Deputy Director of PWE, but has recently been working for Lockwood, Andrews, Newman, Inc., working on the new Orange Light Rail Line for Dallas Area Rapid Transit.

PWE is responsible for “the administration, planning, maintenance, construction management and technical engineering of the City’s infrastructure,” according to their website. The PWE Design Manual (pdf) which is normally updated every year by the department is the key instrument in dictating the urban form of the City of Houston and areas in its extraterritorial jurisdiction (pdf), along with Chapter 42 of the City Code of Ordinances, which is updated by vote of the City Council.
