Clear Lake Shores City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to place a referendum on the May 8 election ballot to seek voter approval for the Clear Lake Shore Economic Development Corporation to issue $900,000 in sales tax revenue bonds for a Town Center Project, according to Guidry News Service.
To fund part of the $2 million project, the EDC had planned to issue $1.4 million in sales tax revenue. However, the figure was amended to $900,000 after a petition by residents, the story notes:
A petition by residents had prevented the city from issuing debt for the Town Center Project without voter consent. An injunction had also been filed to prevent the city’s economic development corporation from issuing debt for the project instead of the city.
