The City of Austin will begin paying residents to let their St. Augustine grass lawns die to then be replaced with less water wasting options, according to the Austin American Statesman.
A similar measure implemented over the last ten years in El Paso is being credited for allowing the city to avoid the worst outcomes of the recent drought.
