The green home building industry is gaining momentum in the US, says the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), a trend they attribute to increased product availability to a wider general market, as well as growing consumer interest and incentives.
NAHB runs the National Green Building Program, which provides coursework and industry experience to builders, designers, remodelers, and others interested in building homes that meet the program’s national certification standards, and they say that membership is growing rapidly.
Now home builder associations in 40 states have NAHB National Green Building Program affiliations, says NAHB, and 17 of these programs are statewide, offering consumers greater access to green building options.
A press statement from NAHB Chairman Joe Robson sums up the certification program’s target areas:
Homes certified in the NAHB National Green Building Program meet benchmarks set for energy, water and resource efficiency; indoor environmental quality, lot and site development and home owner education and home maintenance. Green building practices are incorporated into every step of the home building and land development process to minimize environmental impact.
