Austin City Council gave an initial approval for a new Downtown plan that includes separating downtown in 9 distinct districts - protecting live music venues in some and new residents in others - and building a more walkable, dense urban downtown, according to the Austin American Statesman.
Remaining issues for Council to solve include the uncertainty of closely related light rail plans, eliminating loopholes in the existing ordinance that would pay for affordable housing, and how to pay for parks and other improvements.
