Volunteer here

Houston Tomorrow is conducting an exciting bike and pedestrian count to bring attention to Complete Streets (and give the region high quality data it doesn’t currently have).  We are looking for at least 100 volunteers and we are hoping you can help us get there.

Limited data is currently available on the walking and biking habits of Houstonians (and nationwide). We don’t like that. Houston Tomorrow’s Livability Action Team is conducting a 13 County survey for the Houston Coalition for Complete Streets to begin having better information about the real transportation needs of the region. The count will take place at various assigned times and locations during the week of August 11 - 17. We have chosen 200 sites and times at random and are asking volunteers to basically commit to sitting at two locations for an hour at each counting pedestrians and bicyclists. You also will be wearing the t-shirt, possibly posting a pro-complete streets sign, and armed with information and brochures about Complete Streets.

So no matter what part of the region you call home, you can help.  We need people to conduct the count at all different times of the day, so no matter what your schedule is, you can help.

The process will be fun and easy and you will be contributing to possibly groundbreaking work. To sign up, you must commit to the 2 hours doing the survey and attending one of our training sessions, where you will receive your packet to complete the work, instructions, some background information, a t-shirt, and some food.  The training sessions will occur at our office, located at 3015 Richmond Avenue, Houston, Texas 77098 on Wednesday and Thursday, August 9-10. Please pick a session time in the survey.
As a thank you for your hard work, to collect the final results, and to gather in support of bike ped infrastructure we will be hosting a party on Friday at the close of the week of counts. We’ll let you know the details at the training sessions.
