On Monday, May 17 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will hold a visioning workshop to seek input on the Texas Rail Plan that it is developing. The meeting will be held at the TxDOT Houston District Auditorium at 7600 Washington Avenue in Houston (map).
According to an agency brochure:
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is developing a Texas Rail Plan to guide future actions by the public and private sectors to expand mobility of people and goods on rail, and meet federal and state legislative requirements. TxDOT values your participation in laying the foundation for this Texas Rail Plan—establishing a Vision for the future of rail in Texas. This Texas Rail Plan will be coordinated with the Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan, TxDOT’s look at the future of all transportation modes in Texas, also being conducted this summer.

After a brief presentation to establish the overall context for the Texas Rail Plan, participants will break into smaller working groups. These groups will discuss the following issues:

-Major rail hubs and intermodal connections (freight and passenger) in urban areas
-How to identify and resolve conflicts between passenger and freight use of existing private railroad tracks and rights of way
-Public investment in freight and passenger rail
-Possible funding mechanisms for public and private rail investments
Participants must RSVP to Stacy Cook at 301.347.9122 or scook@camsys.com.
