Who better to talk about what lies ahead for Houston’s downtown than Bob Eury? Eury has been pivotal in reinvigorating and redeveloping downtown for more than a quarter of a century. His enthusiasm for downtown and its future is legendary—and relentlessly practical. If you’ve paid attention to what’s happened downtown since the ‘80s—especially over the past decade—you’ve seen much that is the fruit of Eury’s labors and those of the staff and volunteers at Central Houston, and you won’t want to miss this opportunity for a first-hand look at the next decade or more!
Eury, who earned his Master of Architecture in urban design from Rice University, became the founding president of Central Houston Inc. in 1983. Central Houston is a private nonprofit created to spearhead planning for and redevelopment of downtown. He also has served as executive director of the Houston Downtown Management District, a special assessment district in the CBD, since it was formed in 1992. Prior to joining Central Houston, Eury served in a variety of positions at Rice Center for Community Design + Research, ending in 1980-1983 as vice president and director of research development.
