Event Details — Livable Houston Initiative - Uri Avin on Regional Planning for Sustainability
At the next Livable Houston Initiative meeting on July 22, Uri Avin, Practice Leader in regional growth management at
Parsons Brinckerhoff will explore and demonstrate the relationships between land use/transportation planning and greenhouse gas impacts at the regional scale. He will present methods and tools applied in several recent projects in different regions in the US.
Mr. Avin has worked with state, regional, and local governments, non-profits, and the land developers, assisting clients with various planning stages and strategies, including scenario-building and visioning for growth management and sustainability, comprehensive planning, integrated transportation/land use planning, and ordinance implementation.
Much of his research and publication work investigates Smart Growth strategies through analysis, model-building, and simulation of the relationships between transportation, environmental sustainability, and energy use, and their economic implications.
Among his recent projects, Mr. Avin helped develop scenarios for the new Plan for Tysons Corner, VA, he was Principal Investigator on a National Cooperative Highway Research Program study resulting in the report
Forecasting the Indirect Land Use Effects of Transportation Projects, and he directed a
Unified Plan to guide future land use and community development in Gwinnett County, GA, a project that addressed long-range transportation, economic development, and fiscal issues.
His presentation on July 22 is free and open to the public, with an opportunity for questions afterward. Bring your own lunch.
