The Texas Economic and Demographics Association (TEDA), Houston chapter, is hosting this event on Thursday, May 20, from 5:30-6:30 pm, at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas (map).
An event page notes that the event will feature three speakers and includes additional information:
Clint Harbert, AICP
Director, Short Range Planning, Metropolitan Transit Authority
Peter Finn
Project Director, North Corridor, Metropolitan Transit Authority
Jose Enriquez P.E.
Project Director, Southeast Corridor, Metropolitan Transit Authority
METRO Solutions is a comprehensive transit system plan to help solve the Houston region’s traffic congestion and air quality problems. To this end, METRO has begun construction of a significant transit expansion, with three new light rail lines (North, Southeast, and East End) slated to open in 2014.
In 2008, Christof Spieler (now a newly appointed METRO board member) addressed TEDA on what METRO was doing with light rail and why. What has METRO been doing since 2008? And what is Houston doing to play catch up in the public transportation arena?
Harbert will discuss the overall planning process, where METRO stands in terms of Federal Transit Administration requirements, and where the proposed University alignment ranks in the federal process. Finn and Enriquez will discuss their respective alignments, station locations, and updated construction information and program schedules. With vigorous debate raging about rail in Houston, this meeting is exceptionally timely.
