A public hearing on smog standard will be held in Houston on February 2, 2010, from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm or later (a lunch break will be taken between 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm) at the Hilton Houston Hobby Hotel (near Hobby Airport), Moody Ballroom (ground floor), 8181 Airport Blvd, Houston, Texas 77061 (phone 713-645-3000).

A fact sheet provided by Brandt Mannchen of the Sierra Club asks citizens to attend the event and describes it in detail:

EPA Public Hearing on Smog Standard Needs Your Presence and Input so We All Can Breathe Easier

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed tightening the health-based national ambient air quality standard (NAAQS) for ozone (smog).  The EPA has proposed a stricter ozone standard (between 60 parts per billion (ppb) and 70 ppb, using three significant digits, averaged over eight hours) because research shows ozone is harmful to public health and welfare below the present standard of 75 ppb.

Ozone is a respiratory irritant that aggravates allergies and asthma and scars lungs, thus making it harder to breath.  Children, older people, those who exercise, and those with existing respiratory problems are most susceptible to ozone air pollution.

Your presence, verbal comments, and written comments are needed at a public hearing and for the hearing record.  We need as many people at the public hearing as possible, so spread the word!!!  If you would like to help organize participation for this event, please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

To present verbal comments at the public hearing contact Ms. Tricia Crabtree via email (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) or phone (919-541-5688).
You will have 5 minutes to speak.  Even if you choose not to speak we need friendly faces in the audience so EPA knows that the public wants its’ health and welfare protected.

The message we want EPA to hear is protection of public health and welfare requires that the ozone standard be as stringent as possible, using three significant digits, averaged over 8 hours.  In other words, we want our families to breathe easier!  Be sure to mention Docket No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2005-0172 in your comments.

Submit your comments by the deadline of March 11, 2010 to either of the following:  Docket No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2005-0172, U.S. EPA, Mail Code 6102T, 1200 Pennsylvania Ave., NW., Washington, D.C. 20460 or via email:  .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
