You are invited to participate in the Changing Direction transportation forum on Tuesday, May 19th. Please join CTC, Houston Tomorrow, and Transportation for America for a public forum on shaping the future of America's transportation system.

Join us from 6:30 to 7:00 pm for a brief reception and networking, then at 7:00 pm, David Crossley, President of Houston Tomorrow, will kick off the evening with opening remarks on transportation infrastructure and quality of life. He will be followed by short presentations on key topics from a panel of important local leaders:

Robert Heineman, FAIA, Vice President of Planning for the Woodlands Development Company, will talk about the role of access and mobility in planning a community.

Dr. Stephen Klineberg, Professor of Sociology, Rice University, and founder of the Houston Area Survey, will share his findings on how Harris County residents think about our transportation needs and how that thinking has changed.

Dr. Carol Lewis, Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Transportation, Training and Research at Texas Southern University, will introduce the federal transportation reauthorization bill and how the federal transportation program affects each of our lives.

Christof Spieler, Director of Technology and Innovation for Morris Architects and CTC technical advisor, will highlight disparities in how the federal government funds highway and transit projects.

Jeff Taebel, FAICP, Director of Community and Environmental Planning at H-GAC, will explain Livable Centers as a strategy for sustainable mobility.

Marla Turner, Associate State Director for AARP Texas, will talk about the transportation needs of seniors and how making our city more elder-friendly will make it more people-friendly.

Radio host Leo Gold will be the moderater for the evening. Following the panel he will guide the audience participation portion of the evening, fielding your comments and questions to the panel. Mr. Gold is the host of The New Capital Show on local Pacifica station KPFT 90.1 FM. There will be opportunities for both making comments at a mic and making written comments that may become part of the discussion.

Robin Holzer, Chair of the Citizens' Transportation Coalition, will wrap up the evening with a few ways for each of us to get involved in the policy-making process. We hope you will join us!
