Professor of Sociology, Rice UniversityStephen Klineberg is the co-director of Rice University’s new Institute for Urban Research, which will provide a permanent home for the annual Houston Area Survey. The survey, now in its 29th year, is the nation’s longest running study of any metropolitan area. A graduate of Haverford College with an M.A. from the University of Paris and a Ph.D. from Harvard University, Klineberg joined Rice’s sociology department in 1972 after teaching at Princeton University. He is the recipient of 10 major teaching awards at Rice, including the George R. Brown Certificate of Highest Merit, Rice’s lifetime award for superior teaching.
